Buckingham Township, PA – The Buckingham Township Fire Marshal’s Office has been awarded a $750 educational stipend from the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) to support local public education efforts focused on residential fire safety and the life-saving benefits of home fire sprinkler systems.

The funding will assist the Township in expanding community outreach and fire prevention education efforts aimed at increasing awareness of how quickly modern home fires can develop and how residential sprinkler systems can help protect occupants and firefighters alike.

“Fires can spread much faster than many people realize due to today’s furnishings, open floor plans, and synthetic materials,” said James Kettler, Director of Building & Codes / Fire Marshal for Buckingham Township. “Home fire sprinklers provide an important layer of protection by helping control or suppress a fire in its early stages, often before the fire department arrives. Using the HFSC educational materials, we will raise awareness of how quickly a home fire can become deadly and the critical impact of installing home fire sprinklers.”

According to the HFSC:

  • Without sprinklers, modern home fires can become deadly in as little as two minutes.
  • Toxic smoke and rapidly increasing heat place both residents and firefighters at significant risk.
  • In most residential sprinkler activations, only the sprinkler closest to the fire operates when temperatures reach approximately 165F.
  • Home fire sprinklers can help control or extinguish a fire while residents escape and firefighters respond.

The stipend program is funded through a grant provided by State Farm®.

The Buckingham Township Fire Marshal’s Office thanks both the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition and State Farm for supporting local fire prevention and life safety education initiatives.
