As part of our Safe to Sip in Buckingham Township initiative, we are continuing our efforts to keep residents informed about PFAS in groundwater — particularly for those who rely on private wells.

Following Friday’s public information session, we received many important questions about PFAS testing, health considerations, and water treatment options. To support our community with clear, research-based information, we are sharing the articles and presentation materials discussed during the session.

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) have been detected in groundwater in parts of Pennsylvania. While public water systems are regulated and routinely monitored, private well owners are responsible for testing and maintaining their own water quality. Staying informed is an important step in ensuring your household water remains safe to sip.

The resources below cover:

  • Current research on PFAS in Pennsylvania groundwater
  • Factors influencing PFAS occurrence
  • How to test your private well water
  • Health information related to PFAS exposure
  • Treatment options to reduce PFAS in drinking water

Home Treatment Guidance

One of the articles below provides detailed guidance on how to select and purchase effective home treatment systems for PFAS removal. This resource outlines what certifications to look for, which types of filtration systems are effective (such as activated carbon and reverse osmosis), and how to properly maintain them. Residents considering a home treatment solution are strongly encouraged to review this information carefully.
