Zoning Hearing Board
The Zoning Hearing Board is appointed by the Board of Supervisors. The Zoning Hearing Board hears appeals of the Zoning Officer's decisions and requests for variances or special exceptions from the literal enforcement of the Zoning Ordinance. The Board is a judicial body and may not make or modify zoning policy. Decisions of the Zoning Hearing Board are final and cannot be overruled by the Board of Supervisors. However, both the applicant and the Board of Supervisors have the right to appeal the decision of the Zoning Hearing Board to the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas. The Zoning Hearing Board usually meets the fourth (4th) Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. and more frequently if needed.
Zoning regulations protect the owners' property and that of their neighbors. Buckingham Township has adopted a zoning ordinance that regulates and restricts the height of buildings and other structures, the percentage of a lot that may be occupied, the size of yards and open spaces, the location and use of buildings, structures and land for trade, industry, residence or other purposes. The ordinance also creates land districts and boundaries. It provides for the administration, enforcement and amendment of the ordinance in accordance with the provisions of the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code.
The Township employs a full-time Director of Code Enforcement / Zoning Officer to interpret and enforce the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance. The Code Enforcement / Zoning department may be reached at 215-794-8836 during regular working hours.
