Drought Watch Issued for Buckingham Township
In response to ongoing dry conditions and below-average precipitation levels, Buckingham Township is issuing a drought watch for the entire service area.
Current Conditions:
As of November 1, 2024, Bucks County is experiencing a severe drought, with the northern half of the county being the worst affected. The drought began in June and continued into August, with some relief from rainfall in August. However, the county began drying out again in September, and October is the driest month ever recorded. Buckingham Township’s production wells are not under stress currently and do not warrant a drought emergency.
Impact on Community:
The drought may lead to water shortages, affecting agriculture, drinking water supplies, and local ecosystems. Residents are urged to conserve water and limit usage where possible. Key recommendations include:
- Reducing lawn irrigation and avoiding watering during peak sun hours
- Limiting car washes and other non-essential water uses
- Sweep sidewalks and driveways (instead of using a hose)
- Avoid washing your car, or use a commercial car wash that recycles water
- Fix any plumbing leaks- especially toilets and faucets
- Reduce shower length to under 5 minutes
- Turn water off while brushing your teeth
- Wash full loads of clothes and dishes
