A Notice for Buckingham Township Sewer Customers
Posted: 7/16/2014 10:09 AM
For the first time ever, Buckingham Township will be increasing the quarterly sewer rates in the Fieldstone, Buckingham Village, Furlong, Stoneymead and Cold Spring Wastewater Systems by twenty-five dollars and fifty cents ($25.50) per edu per quarter, an increase of less than 28¢ per day or $8.50 per month. This increase will go into effect with the third quarter 2014 sewer bills.
The Water Rates remain unchanged.
It has been over 25 years that the Sewer Rates in Buckingham Township have remained the same. Although the cost of living has more than doubled in that time period, there has NEVER been an increase to sewer rates for Buckingham Township residents.
The $25.50 increase is solely to cover shortfalls in the Operation and Maintenance costs of the wastewater systems. Over the years, the Township has been able to cover any operational shortfalls through the Capital Reserve. However, there are now several large capital projects in the works and those funds are needed for capital improvements. Adjusting the rates to cover the operation and maintenance costs assures that the funds are available when capital improvements are required.
Buckingham Township has always had our residents in mind and has held the line on costs as much as possible but now the Township must cover our costs. The total bill for the average residential customer with one edu will go from $127.40 to $152.90 per quarter. The Pennsylvania general average is $252 per edu per quarter. Buckingham, after the rate increase, is $100.00 less than the state average.
